SDSL is one of the newest and most reliable ways to connect to the internet, it enables businesses to have a permanent internet connection, using it as well for phone and fax connections. For a fixed monthly fee, you can stay connected as long as needed and most of all have the same speed of upload and download.

2) Do I need a router?

Yes, you can use or buy your own RJ45 enabled device or W20 can supply one, a router allows you to share your broadband with other computers in the home, it also offers higher security for your computer or network. There are typically two types of router. The first is ADSL, which is used with telephone based broadband. This is not suitable. A, "Cable Modem," must be used.

3) Do I still leave the phone line connected to my modem or computer?

No, your phone line can go back to being just a phone line. It is highly recommended that you uninstall any software that came from you previous internet supplier and remove any modems from your computer.

4) Where does the equipment need to go?

The antenna needs to point at your nearest transmitter, ideal location is at the highest point like an apex or chimney.

5) Does the system require line of sight?

No, however line of sight certainly helps.

6) Do the radios present any health hazard?

As stated by Repacholi MH, “no known health hazards were associated with exposure to RF sources, emitting fields too low to cause a significant temperature rise in tissue”.link
Our equipment uses 20 times less power than GSM (mobile phones), 100 milli-watts to GSM's 2 watts

7) Does your service suffer during bad weather or interference?

Atmospherics do play their part in the services performance however every install has an overhead of signal strength margin, so even in the worst storms you should still have enough signal to support the throuput.
Interference is unlikely as we use frequencies in the 5.8 GHz range and by law any equipment using this frequency must scan first for used/unused channels.

8) Does my computer need anything special to work with your service?

No but you will need a network socket (local area connection), if you computer does not have one then network cards are available from most retail electronic stores from under £10.

9) Can I use apple Mac’s with W20?

Yes, our service will work with all equipment using tcp/ip protocols.

10) Will my old emails still work? Will W20 issue me any email addresses?

Yes, any emails that you access through a website (yahoo etc) will be unaffected. Any email addresses set up in outlook etc will also continue to work however you must set the outgoing mail server to “ smtp.w20.net”.
W20 will supply up to 5 email addresses and require you to have at least one so we can contact you; also our email service is unlimited. Subject to our fair usage policy.

11) What are your incoming and outgoing mail servers?

Our server uses POP3 and SMTP. When setting up your W20 mail account use the following…
Incoming: pop.w20.net
Outgoing: smtp.w20.net

12) How do I get the most from W20 broadband?

W20 recommends using our broadband on a PC with Windows XP, using Internet explorer 6 or above.
Having the latest JAVA and FLASH PLAYER installed will ensure your internet experience is up to date, pages may also load faster and smoother.
Allowing activex to load without prompt or permissions also reduces page load lag, this can be adjusted in internet options under security, use caution as some activex is harmful.
Remember if you have any antivirus or antispyware running this will protect you however it will also slow down your internet and email access.
Setting your home page to a simple looking site like GOOGLE will reduce start up time when opening your browser.
